How to Select the Best Flooring for Every Room

By Sara Rengifo

Choosing the right flooring for your entire house can be an overwhelming process, pricing a new floor is not as easy as pricing a color for your walls or changing some of the finishes at home so this might be one of the most important decisions you have to make in your remodeling or new home project

Whether you have an interior designer or a friend with a very good eye, keep in mind that this will be beyond having a nice look so check for companies around your area that can offer you not just materials but education to guide you through the whole process.

This is why we want to point out some of the most important steps you need to take to accomplish this project.

  1. Set a realistic budget: prices vary so make sure you know what you are willing to spend. We all want more for less but in this case, keep in mind that choosing a good floor can make your life much easier. For example, big formats and natural materials usually last longer plus they add that amazing clean look, however, natural materials usually require more care than man-made ones.
  1. Identify your needs: in this step, some people realize they need different types of floors for some rooms like kitchens and bathrooms. In these busy areas, options like ceramic tile, porcelain tile, luxury vinyl plank, and luxury vinyl tile might be the best way to go.
  2. Family can play a fundamental role too: perhaps you have children, pets, or an elder living with you. In this case, make sure that the materials and textures are appropriate. For example, laminate floors are usually scratch resistant and come with a high-density fiberboard that can protect it against dropped objects too.

On the other hand, options like a luxury vinyl floor work well for toddlers and the elderly since it is not very slippery and is easy to maintain and waterproof. This is an excellent option not to sacrifice beauty for function.

  1. Appearance vs Performance: Every type of flooring has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. When it comes to achieving a visually appealing look without compromising on functionality, opting for big format tiles is a wise choice. The larger size of these tiles creates an illusion of spaciousness and elegance, making them an ideal option for small rooms in need of a visual boost.
  1. The installation process is crucial as each type of flooring has its own specific requirements. It is important to include this step in your budget planning. However, since the cost of installation varies depending on the chosen material, we suggest finding a company that not only provides the flooring material but also possesses the necessary expertise for installation. This way, you can ensure a seamless and professional outcome
